The lowdown
The legend that is Ian Schrager is back with his new venture, PUBLIC.
Offering guests a complete hotel experience, he’s perfectly tapped into the increasingly popular demand to just hang out and socialise within a hotel space, regardless of being a guest.
The overall design aesthetic created by Herzog & de Meuron, is one of elegance and drama; perfectly enabling the cabin type spaces to transform from day through to night. I particularly love the clean look and tranquility of the rooms. New York is a fantastically bustling yet gritty city and whenever I visit, I always look forward to a little respite.
The PUBLIC experience is all encompassing and impressively includes public art spaces for hosting a myriad of dramatic exploits including musical performances, film screenings, art exhibitions and clubbing.
Not surprisingly there’s a host of food and drink options, meaning you can bury yourself into emails, work for a few hours and then resurface at 5 with a cocktail in hand. No need for normal work hours or strenuous activity. Life is for living.
In a city that never sleeps, PUBLIC certainly delivers true disruptive style and I for one can’t wait to visit that roof bar.
